Could the Bobcats announce a name change to the Hornets next week?

Posted on 10 Apr 2013 by Justin Ruckman

The Bring Back the Buzz crew thinks it might happen.

Update: And so does Bleacher Report.

Basically, you’ve got:

  1. The last New Orleans Hornets game ever on Wed, Apr 17, after which they will officially become the Pelicans, putting the Hornets name back in the field
  2. The last Bobcats game of the season on Wed, Apr 17
  3. The launch of a new teal and purple Nike Jordan line on … Wed, Apr 17
  4. The Bobcats’ recent purging of orange/blue-colored Jordans at last week’s Heat game
  5. A “town hall” meeting on Mon, Apr 15 with future NBA commissioner Adam Silver
  6. An invite-only presentation happening in Charlotte about “the Bobcats’ future”, scheduled right before the final game next week on Wed, Apr 17
  7. A Bobcats Open House event on Thurs, Apr 18

Obviously it’s all speculation at this point. But what if?!

Sounds possible. I’d like to see it just to see it over with if nothing else.

So that could be 2 times since 2009 the“Cats” will have had a one and done uniform redesign? That’s how you gouge an already thin fanbase.

The Hornets won’t be a “one and done” deal. The Charlotte Hornets were more than an NBA team. They were an emblem in this city. The name holds magic.

I mean, they redesigned the uniforms in 2009/10 which lasted a year until they were altered for the new league wide template alterations in 2010, albeit slightly, look at the neck on the 2009/2010 uniform compared to the 20102011 one. and now last years Cats redesign which could be tossed for the Hornets.
