Uber’s in town this week only, and the first ride is free!

Posted on 7 Jun 2012 by Justin Ruckman

Actually, they’ll be coming back for the DNC in September, but they’re running a trial of their services in Charlotte through this Friday @ 5 PM.

If you haven’t heard of Uber, it’s an on-demand car service that you access through your iPhone, Android, or via their mobile site. You just open up the app, it tells you how far away the nearest car is, you request a pickup, and a black car (or SUV) will pick you up in minutes. The entire transaction, from booking your ride, to paying for the trip, is all handled electronically through the app.

Anyway, all this is to say that you should give it a go! During this trial week in Charlotte, your first ride is free, so why not try it out?

We met up w/ Rachel Holt (@RachelJHolt) and Max Crowley (@MaxJCrowley) of Uber while they were in town yesterday, and got them to explain the service and take us on a ride from lunch back to our office at Packard Place. Check out the video above for details about Uber, what they’re currently offering in Charlotte, and why you should give it a shot. And follow them on Twitter while they’re in Charlotte: @Uber_DNC2012.

So this trial run ends in 8 hours? Are they coming back for the DNC only then leave to never return to Charlotte?

    Hey Joe!

We’ll do our best to come back and stay after the DNC, but definitely will depend on how much support we get, so try to take a ride today :). First one is on us!
